The first ever Goal! on the blog comes from the indoor game of Futsal and features Falcão - not Atlético's Falcao, but the Brazilian futsal national team's Falcão, winner of the 2004 and 2008 Fifa Futsal World Cups' Best Player award.
It's audacious, it's arrogant and by god it's good. With a free kick just outside the 'D', his teammate feigns a strike and nudges the ball to futsal superstar Falcão. He attacks the ball at pace, his leg poised to drive the ball low and as the keeper encroaches down on his knees, Falcão swivels on the ball and in a variation of the rainbow flick, arches the ball over the hapless keeper's head. Sublime.
It's not, however, a skill solely confined to the rubber surface, and is occasionally seen in the 11-a-side game albeit in the run of play and not as a strike on goal. Unsurprisingly, a fellow Brazilian, Neymar, shows us how it's done.
